You can download a PDF copy of this prayer letter in English or Welsh - perfect for printing. Why not print a copy for your church prayer meeting, or to keep in your Bible?

‘The just shall live by faith’ and so we seek to do. We have seen God answering prayer in wonderful ways. We are seeking to manage the shops, the staff, and the assets of the EMW in an honouring way. But we can never forget that we live by faith. Just like any church, fellowship or organisation we have so many unpredictable things which happen daily or weekly. Living by faith and crying to God for help are the only answers.

The EMW and His church in Wales have many great needs. In this prayer letter we report some of them. However, the greatest need we have is for the work of the Holy Spirit in our land. Many report the need to pray for conversions in their churches – so let us pray, look to our God and live by faith.

Thank you for praying for us....

Firstly,

Firstly,

may we share some specific answers to the prayer requests we made just two months ago:

  • The Neath shop will be staying open – at least until next January. Gaynor Lewis, the manageress, has decided to do the job entirely as a volunteer. ‘The Lord has promised to look after me!’ she told one of her friends.
  • The Lord has provided two members of staff in Bryn-y-groes: Stuart Thut from Bala and Eifion Perkins from Ammanford. We have been praying for some time about this. David and Pat Wilmot are delighted to have permanent workers to help to meet the needs of groups staying in the centre - just a few weekends ago they had a church group of seventy-four!
  • God has provided an assistant manager in the Cardiff Christian Bookshop. Alan Ashmore started work on Monday 15 June.
  • Darganfod Cristnogaeth (Christianity Explored in the Welsh language) has been printed by our Bryntirion Press and will be launched during the summer with a range of support resources. For more information visitwww.darganfodcristnogaeth.org
  • Gwyliau Tegid and the Spring Break were well attended, leading to the blessing of many.
  • The end of the financial year figures (2008-09) reduced the annual operating loss to significantly less than half of last year, to £40,000; this includes all our redundancy payments. Office costs were down by £20,000. We received legacies of around £30,000. Whilst there remains a great deal to do, we believe the Lord is moving us in the right direction. We have made over £40,000 savings this year, and an additional £10,000 for next financial year. We are undertaking a detailed review of our costs in order to identify further savings.

Secondly,

may we ask you to give thanks for key workers who have spent much of their lives in dedicated service to the LORD through the EMW.

We are so very grateful to them and their families for all their dedication and service. One of them recently wrote that ‘these have been very special days, months and years… I would have had it no other way!’. They are now leaving us to move onto new chapters in their work for the Lord:

  • Wynn Hess is retiring from managing the Swansea Christian Bookshop, being replaced by Rosemary Cole as acting manageress
  • Margaret Watkins who has worked faithfully in the Swansea shop for many years
  • Hywel George whose faithful work has been so signifi cant in the Cardiff Christian Bookshop
  • Edith Roberts who has been part of the Bryn-y-groes staff for many years
  • Richard Andrews who has been part of the Bryn-y-groes staff for a year

Thirdly, the AECW annual meeting.

Thirdly, the AECW annual meeting.

The meeting was helpful and stimulating with sermons from Ian Parry and chairman, Peter Milsom. Seminars were practical and challenging. It was good to be with many other churches across Wales.

The EMW trailer
The work of the EMW trailer continues at a pace over the summer months. Pray for Roger and the other volunteers as they share the gospel with people in the various shows and fairs of Wales. Roger will be visiting shows in Capel Bangor, Eglwys Bach, Cardigan, Anglesey and the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells over the next two months.

Finally:

Emyr and Mair Afan (son and daughter-in-law of Mair, and the late, Rev. J. Elwyn Davies) are very grateful for every prayer that has been offered for Alaw, their daughter, after her serious car accident before Easter. Due to the wonderful intercession from people all over Wales, Alaw has taken major steps towards recovery, but there is still a need to remember her in prayer – especially that she will regain use of her left leg and arm. We also pray that she would experience less pain and tiredness and return to full health. Alaw herself testifies to the fact that God has made her better thus far.

May the Lord bless you over the next few months.

In Christ alone,

David Norbury - General Secretary
